When you have your network cable installation underway, you’ll need Network Installation Tools to help guide you. Here are some tools designed for cable installation.

Knowing how to install and repair your networks is an incredibly helpful skill. However, you need a few specific tools to do so efficiently. These tools include a punch-down tool, a wire stripper, wire cutters, and more.

Having access to the six different network installation tools you should own can help you with the process if you manage your own network.

You may often hear punch-down Network Installation Tool referred to as krone tools. These tools connect the wires found inside an Ethernet cable to either a patch panel, a punch-down block, a keystone module, or a surface mount box.

You punch the wires down into place with this tool, hence the name. These tools use three parts to make this happen: the handle, the spring-based mechanism used to force the wires together, and the slotted blade to remove excess wire for a nice, clean installation.

Wire Stripper

  • Wire cutter with induction hardened cutting edge stays sharp longer
  • Strips and cuts 10-22 AWG

Wire strippers are essential to removing the jacket—the protective coating over the inner wires. When you strip the jacket, you can connect the inner wires to other wires. You will only need one set, which should work on most wires you have to strip.

  • Speed zone provides quick rotation control for efficient run down.

Among the six different network installation tools you should own, a screwdriver set is essential. Ideally, you should keep all the screwdrivers you may need in one kit. At a bare minimum, you will need a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver, ideally in several different sizes.

Wire Cutters

Wire cutters are pretty self-explanatory: you use them to cut wires cleanly and easily. It’s important to make sure the wire cutters have insulated handles to avoid shocks from the wires.
Also, remember that you may need specific cutters for heavy-duty coaxial and Ethernet cables.

Crimp tools may look like a pair of pliers, but they work by bending pieces of metal together in a process called crimping. For example, you need a crimp tool when fixing an RJ45 connector to the end of an Ethernet cable. Without this tool, the connector will likely fall off.

Cable Tester

  • VERSATILE CONNECTION TESTING: Tests voice (RJ11/12), data (RJ45), and video...
  • EFFICIENT TEST + MAP REMOTE: Self-storing Test + Map Remote (#1) tests, maps, and IDs...

Finally, any time you work with wires and cables, you want to have a cable tester on hand. These can help determine both the strength and connectivity of the specific cable. Additionally, some higher-end testers can sometimes test multiple types.

Without these tools, internet cable installation would be challenging. By having them in your toolkit, you can make any potentially difficult job a breeze.

The above list delivers all the different network installation tools you should own before starting any position in network installation.
